A Rose for Sant Jordi

Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Montblanc a princess, a knight and a dragon.

The latter sowed terror in the region by devouring everything there was in his passage. In order to calm his anger, the inhabitants decided to bring him every day a person drawn to the fate in offering. Until the day when fate drew the king's Daughter to fate!

It was then that a valiant knight, named Sant Jordi, showed bravery and decided to save the princess. After a fierce struggle, he killed the monster and the legend tells that the blood of the dragon that passed on the ground, was born a rose of red flowers.

Since then, the Catalan tradition wants men to offer a red rose as a gift to their beloved.

The legend of Sant Jordi was written in the 13th century by Santiago du Tourbillon, in his work "The Golden Legend".
